Stories from the Ivy Room
“All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.” -2 Corinthians 4:15
The children in the Blossom Room have been interested in exploring new materials. We encourage this to help develop competencies and make connections to past experiences. The children have been sketching and drawing with different tools. We invited the children to sketch pumpkins that they brought from home. After they had experience using drawing pencils, black pens, markers, and crayons, we introduced them to charcoal. The children loved the feeling of the charcoal and how dark the lines became on the paper! The charcoal is easy for small hands with a soft touch to manipulate and has quite an impact to the eye with such dark visible lines.
“Look how beautiful my leaves are? Do you see they have a stem at the top? Look at the colors! - Anne Scott
The Tapestry Room, Mosaic Room and the Creek Room conceptualized their “piazza” from a desire to create a shared space that fosters community building with neighboring classes and a need for play space outside of their classroom doors. They introduced the idea to the children by sharing their experiences from the study tour in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
